Systemic lupus erythematosus is one of the important chronic autoimmune diseases
It affects the joints causing arthritisIt can also cause falling of hair, skin rash of the face, kidney disease
In some patients it might also affect the lung, the nervous system and the blood vessels
It is more common in females than in males
Early diagnosis is important to prevent damage to any affected organs especially the kidneys
Systemic lupus does not prevent marriage or having children
Treatment consistent of disease modifying anti-rheumatic medications the choice of which depends on which organs in the body are affected by the disease
