The term chronic kidney disease (CKD) actually represents a group of different disorders that are characterized by some problem(s) in the normal function of the kidney that had been there for at least 3 months. This damage is shown in the abnormal labs the blood and urine tests that reflect the different functions of the kidney.

 

CKD will not show any symptoms actually in its early stages. It is at later stages that symptoms will appear.

 

Patients with CKD will also suffer from disturbances in hormones as the parathormone produced by the parathyroid gland that controls bone metabolism and will likely suffer of anemia. 

 

In addition, patients with CKD are at high risk for more side effects of some medications that are eliminated by the kidney and also for complications in the cardiovascular system and nervous system.

 

Some of the important and common causes of CKD are diabetes, drug toxicity, auto-immune diseases and kidney stones.
